Anderson Federal Credit Union began in 1953 as Anderson Fiberglas Federal Credit Union with the mission of helping the employees of Owens Corning Fiberglas borrow and save. Credit unions, by definition, are not-for-profit financial institutions that are owned by their members. So, with just 10 charter members who each deposited $5.00 for one share of ownership, a great organization was born.
Over the years, much has changed about Anderson Federal Credit Union. The original assets of just $50 have grown to over $80 million, while the number of members has increased from 10 to over 13,000. The original charter only allowed for growth through the employees of Owens Corning Fiberglas and their family members. Now, because of an expansion in membership eligibility, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Anderson County can use our financial services. Immediate family members of existing members are also eligible for membership.
Over 60 years since its inception, AFCU continues to serve the people and the community that have invested so much in us. We value the strong "people helping people" philosophy that created credit unions long ago. Our mission is to help our members make smart financial choices that will impact their life for the better, while contributing to the community as a whole by investing in local organizations and projects that make Anderson a better place to live and work.
