Anderson Federal Credit Union, originally chartered as Anderson Fiberglas Federal Credit Union, opened its doors in 1953 with the simple mission of helping the employees of Owens Corning Fiberglas borrow and save. By definition, credit unions are not-for-profit financial institutions that are owned by their members. So, with just 10 charter members who each subscribed to one share of ownership in the amount of $5.00, a great organization was born.

Over the years, much has changed about Anderson Federal Credit Union. The original assets of just $50 have grown to over $88 million, while the number of members has increased from 10 to 16,500. Membership eligibility has also expanded. The original charter only allowed for growth through the employees of Owens Corning Fiberglas and their family members. Now, through a community charter that was established in 2005, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Anderson County or designated areas of Hart and Elbert County in Georgia can use our financial services. In addition, it is also open to the immediate family members of existing members.

AFCU continues to value the strong "people helping people" philosophy that created credit unions long ago. Every year, through the Community Outreach Team, employees initiate projects that will help local residents and community organizations. We believe that our mission is to serve the people and the community that have invested so much in us.
